Dr Steven Mustafa Styer
Dr. Steven Mustafa Styer is the Albukhary Foundation Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. He teaches in the Faculty of Theology and Religion. His forthcoming book in the OUP's Theology and Religion Monograph series, unearths the structure of the Revivification of the Islamic Sciences (Iḥyāʾ ʿUlūm al-dīn) of Abu Hamid al-Ghazali (d. 1111). It shows how al-Ghazali appropriates indigenous and ‘foreign’ materials and marshals the epistemological sources of reason, revelation and spirituality towards obtaining both bodily salvation and spiritual felicity via praxis. His research interests also include late-classical Islamic educational methodologies and epistemology as well exploration of the philosophical relationship between the modern and pre-modern sciences.
