2011: The SC–OCIS Roundtable on ‘Islamic Finance and the Public Good’ was held on 12–13 March 2011 and was the second conference to result from an agreement between the Securities Commission of Malaysia and the Centre. The collaboration is designed to facilitate a more informed debate about the application of Islamic financial services and their relevance to the needs of Muslim societies.

The keynote address was delivered by HRH Dr Raja Nazrin Shah, the Crown Prince of the State of Perak. The conference focussed on the relationship between Shari’a, finance and the public good; law and enforceability of financial contracts; and ways of creating and enabling a corporate structure for ethical finance within an Islamic ethos.

Over fifty international participants including, bankers, lawyers, financial regulators and academics attended.
