Islamic Finance: Markets & Development Summer School
Globally, Islamic finance is expanding to more countries. Within countries that have taken up the discipline, market share is increasing. Total Islamic finance assets now exceed USD 5 trillion according to the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) with the sukuk market alone crossing USD 1 trillion (LSEG). Debate and academic inquiry are increasing throughout the industry. This course will discuss market demand, differences with conventional finance, theory, and product methodology.
As a field of research, Islamic finance is multidisciplinary. The field draws from economics, finance, accounting, law, and politics among others. This course aims to demystify Islamic finance. The course offers insights into its core as well as specialized sub-segments including development, markets, and law.
The course is structured around applied Islamic finance concepts with reference to standards like AAOIFI and Bank Negara Malaysia. Parallel sections will explore experimental economics, law, and markets. The course discusses innovation, regulation, and economic impact measurement.
This course is suitable for: lawyers, bankers, development specialists, managers of charities, and academics in the fields covered.
