Sultan Nazrin Shah Fellow for Islamic Markets

Dr Abdulkader Thomas is Sultan Nazrin Shah Fellow for Islamic Capital Markets at the Centre. His interdisciplinary research addresses Islamic finance from the perspectives of fiqh, law, and public policy. 

Dr Thomas has led research-based projects to support regulatory developments in the US, UK, West Africa, and the Gulf. He has taught Islamic finance and markets at instiutions in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. 

Among Dr Thomas’ publications are Interest in Islamic Economics (Routledge 2006), Sukuk (Sweet & Maxwell 2009), Managing Funds Flow Risks and Derivatives: Applications in Islamic Institutions (Sweet & Maxwell 2012), and Islamic Finance & Sustainable Development (Routledge 2025). 

Dr Thomas holds a PhD in Law from SOAS University of London, an MA in Law & Diplomacy from the Fletcher School, and a BA in Near Eastern Languages & Cultures from the University of Chicago.
