International Laws Against Corruption: Do They Make a Difference?
Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers delivered his second special lecture as the Centre’s Sultan Azlan Shah Fellow in Law. Lord Phillips, former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, addressed an attentive audience at the Examination Schools on the topic of ‘International Laws Against Corruption: Do They Make a Difference?’. The lecture, which took place on Tuesday 24th February, was chaired by Lord Macdonald, Warden of Wadham College, Oxford.
In his lecture Lord Phillips examined how nations deal with bribery of public officials, focusing on the development of legislation to combat corruption. He addressed the crucial issue of the implementation of these laws and argued that while the situation was improving, a change in business culture was required.
