Thomas Hegghammer is a historian and political scientist specializing in the study of militant Islamist groups. He is currently senior research fellow at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) in Oslo and adjunct professor of Middle Eastern Studies at Oslo University. He has published widely on the history of Islamist militancy, most recently The Caravan: Abdallah Azzam and the Rise of Global Jihad (Cambridge University Press, 2020).
