2009: A Conference on ‘The United States and the Muslim World’ was held on 13th–15th November 2009. Wide ranging discussions focussed on divergence and convergence in relations between the US and the Muslim world; international law and humanitarian intervention; the centrality of the US in regional security architecture; the necessity to resolve ‘hot conflicts’ and causes of radicalisation; US domestic policy and the exigencies of the electoral cycle; the cultural context of individual and community rights; changes in policy presentation under the Obama administration; the role of Europe; demographic trends; good governance and public participation in the Muslim world.

The conference was attended by scholars, diplomats, policy makers and members of the media from different parts of the world.
