Lecture: Picturing the court: Mughal artists and material culture in the 17th century
Ms Susan Stronge, Victoria & Albert Museum
The lecture places the portraits in historical and art historical context, and show how the evolution of Mughal painting produces greater accuracy in the depiction of material culture. The portraits then become an important source of information about jewellery and jewelled objects, which have mostly disappeared.
Ms Susan Stronge, is the Senior Curator in the Asian Department, Victoria & Albert Museum,
The lecture took place at 5.30 p.m. on 14 November 2019 at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, Marston Road, Oxford. Light refreshments were provided after the lecture.
