Islam, Faith, and Culture

This is an introductory course on Islam which provides a basic overview of Islam as a way of life, as a religion as well as culture, and considers its impact on Muslim individuals and societies. The purpose of the course is to introduce students to Islam in its religious and cultural contexts. It will help students understand the basic sources of Islam and will provide a brief discussion of the life of the Prophet.

10am-11.30am Understanding Islam and the Muslims

11.45am-1pm The Hadith of Gabriel: Islam, Iman and Ihsan

2pm-3.30pm The Sira of the Prophet

3.45pm-5pm Islamic Theology, Law and Sufism

 

Learning Outcomes:

Learners will have an understanding of what it is to be a Muslim.

Learners will be able to identify the main sources of the Islam as a religion and culture.
